Amazon: Kindle sales accelerating; Demand tipping point?
Amazon announced on Monday that it is selling more e-books than hardcover books and talked up Kindle sales without providing details.
Kindle is the hottest selling ebook reading device in the world. The volume of orders has been massive, causing delays along the way but things are catching up so your Kindle should be with you more quickly now.
The Amazon Kindle 3 is here. The lowest priced, most advanced Kindle Reader to date. With improved clarity and a new even more slimline design the new Kindle really does rock!
For those who don’t know (Welcome to planet Amazon….oops Earth)…The Kindle Reader is an award winning device from Amazon that allows you to read anything you could imagine, all at your fingertips. The Kindle Reader allows you to simply download new books when you have finished your old ones at the touch of a button. Simplicity at its best !
Amazon customers are now buying more e-books than hardcover books. In a press release, CEO Jeff Bezos said:
We’ve reached a tipping point with the new price of Kindle—the growth rate of Kindle device unit sales has tripled since we lowered the price from $259 to $189. In addition, even while our hardcover sales continue to grow, the Kindle format has now overtaken the hardcover format. Amazon.com customers now purchase more Kindle books than hardcover books—astonishing when you consider that we’ve been selling hardcover books for 15 years, and Kindle books for 33 months.
Best of all for US customers at least there is now the option of a cheap Kindle 3 – only $139 that gets you everything the old Kindle 2 did, but with only WIFI connectivity. But with improvements for Facebook and Twitter integration, faster page turning, improved contrast for a much clearer screen, AND support for Chinese and Cyrillic fonts that really is fantastic news.
The standard 3G and WIFI version Kindle 3 offers you the choice of having a white or a graphite Kindle, whilst the WIFI only cheaper version comes in the graphite color option only – like the new Kindle DX.
